New Families at Churchill Road

Welcome New CRS Families

New to Churchill Road? Welcome! Below are some tips and information to help you get started as a parent new to CRS!

school Registration

You can find general registration instructions on the FCPS website and information on the CRS website. Parents are encouraged to register as soon as possible (particularly for rising Kindergartners) - this helps the CRS administration plan staffing for the upcoming school year. And don't forget to check the school supplies list.

School Calendars

Help plan your family's schedule with the FCPS calendars, Churchill Road calendar, the Churchill Road bell schedule, and our PTA calendar.

Helpful Resources

Get ready for the school year with our Back to School checklist. Have questions or heard an acronym you don't know? Consult our FAQs - we might have the answer you need! New to the area? Check our list of local resources for suggestions. Find even more resources to help you and your child's educational experience at CRS on our parent resources and special education pages.

Stay In the Know

Register on our website and subscribe to our newsletter — plus, our Room Parents will stay in touch with you and keep you up-to-date on class/grade events. Also, by creating an account, you can join and use our CRS Family Directory. And you can follow us on Facebook and/or Twitter

You don't have to be a member of our PTA to create an account — though we would love for you to join us! Our PTA membership opens for new members to join (or current members to renew) in late August, usually the day of Open House.

Meet the Community

Attend a Principal's Coffee/Pizza/Meeting and stay for a PTA meeting. Our New Family Outreach committee hosts Meet & Greets for Kindergarteners and new families with students in grades 1-6 during the summer and Principal's meetings during the school year. We would love to see you there and answer any questions!

NEW FAMILY BUDDY PROGRAM

In an effort to help welcome new families to the Churchill Road Elementary School community, the Buddy Program connects new families with a host 'Buddy Family'.   If you are interested in volunteering as a host Buddy Family - or are a newly arrived family interested in signing up - don't be shy! As a new arrival family: you will get the benefit of an established Churchill family's insider knowledge – helping to make your transition to the Churchill community that little bit easier. It will also make sure the new kids know someone in the school, which always helps! For new families who would like to have a Buddy Family, please fill out the google form with the following information.

  • Student name, grade, teacher

  • Parent(s) name, email address

  • Home address

  • Where you moved from

  • Request a host family who speaks a specific language, if desired

  New Family Sign Up

It’s easy and fun!  All we ask is the Buddy Families meet at least once – after that, it's up to you! As a host Buddy Family: you will help a new family become accustomed to both Churchill and McLean living, with friendly advice on what to expect as parents and students in the school and the wider community.
