STEM Night 2027 - flyer

What is STEAM?

STEAM is an educational approach in teaching students about Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics in a integrated and connected way to encourage students to think critically, creatively and collaboratively.  This innovative method encourages students to ask questions, solve problems and be creative about the world around us!

In order to promote STEAM in our CRS Students, the PTA is excited to host a STEAM NIGHT, where students can showcase their STEAM projects!

Don't have any ideas?  Don't worry!  Start with a question or idea that your child is curious about!  Below are some prompts and examples to help your child find an idea, explore it and share what they discover!!!

Deadline to complete Permission Form is Friday, February 12th.

*Verbal presentations are great! Simple signs or displays that explain the project work just as well and give students the flexibility to present their own work while also enjoying other students’ projects.

Turn Curiosity Into A Project

Projects and presentations can be simple! A STEAM project can take many forms. It can be a model, display, diorama, experiment or something your child designs and builds!  Encourage your child to explain what they wondered about, what they made or explored, and what they learned.

Start a conversation about your child’s interests.  What does your child…
• love to learn about, wonder about or want to figure out how it works?
• want to build or create?
• want to make better or test?

Example: Explore flowers and pollinators

I wonder… Why do butterflies and bees visit flowers?
Turn it into a question… How do you think flowers attract butterflies and bees?
Explore it… Investigate color, scent, flower shape or other characteristics and share what you discover.

Explore these resources after talking about your child’s interests. Use them to develop an idea your child can make their own.

Ideas for Kindergartners & 1st Graders

These two challenges offer an easy starting point for kindergarteners and first graders. Younger students are also welcome to choose any project category!

Build a popsicle stick structure

I want to build something… What could I make?

Design challenge …What can you design and build using craft sticks?

Create it….Build a bridge, tower, house, playground, animal habitat—or something completely original. Use popsicle sticks and adhesive, then explain what you made and how you designed it.

Build a balloon powered car

I wonder…. Can I make something move?

Design challenge…. Can you build a car that moves using a balloon?

Test it…. Build a balloon-powered car, see how it moves, make changes and test it again. Share what you changed and what happened.
